The award-winning Bollington Brass Band is celebrating its latest achievement with a charity concert at the end of the month.

The group, which was promoted to the highest level of brass band competition last year, was ranked eighth in the North West Regional Brass Band championship at the Winter gardens in Blackpool.

Paul Berry, secretary, said: “This year the band competed in the championship section for only the second time in the band’s history. A very creditable eighth place was achieved which is a fantastic result. To be ranked as the eighth best band in the north west is a fantastic achievement.”

The ensemble will be joined by its B band to perform a celebratory concert in aid of the Bollington Community Heritage Trust, which was set up to keep Bollington Methodist Church as a community venue after the Methodist Church decided to sell it. And for the first time in the bands history, the concert will also include vocal performances from two of its multi-talented performers.

Ben Jones, who recently starred as Jean Valjean in Fallibroome Academy’s production of Les Miserables, and Robbie Richardson, who starred as Oliver at Marple Hall School’s production, will both be performing songs from their respective shows, accompanied by the band.

The concert will be held at Bollington Methodist Church on Saturday, April 20, at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £10 for adults and £3 for children. They are available from Roger Johnson on 01625 613851.
