SOCCER: David Moss still wants to bring another striker to Macclesfield Town after signing ex-Everton youngster David Eaton on a non-contract basis.

Moss wants an experienced forward to help Matt Tipton and Neil Robinson establish themselves in the Football League following Lee Glover's departure.

Glover joined Mansfield on a pay-as-you-play deal last Friday after his contract with Macclesfield was terminated by mutual consent.

Moss has brought in 21-year-old Eaton, who was released by Everton in the summer, as a back-up option for his small squad.

Eaton is expected to play for the reserves in the Cheshire Cup against Tranmere next Wednesday.

But Moss feels he is still one striker short following Glover's exit.

The Macclesfield manager played transfer-listed Kyle Lightbourne up front with Matt Tipton against Bristol Rovers, but that is not his long-term first-choice striking partnership despite the Bermudan netting against Barnsley.

Moss is still prepared to listen to offers for Lightbourne, but has scotched rumours the former international's contract is about to be terminated in the same way that Glover's has been.

Asked if there was any truth in reports that Lightbourne was about to be released, Moss said: "Not at the moment."

The arrival of Eaton - who can play up front or on the left side of midfield - will give Moss more attacking options.

But the manager does not want to throw the attacker, who had trials at Bournemouth and Wrexham in pre-season, into the first team too quickly.

Moss said: "I first saw him play for Everton reserves two years ago, and he scored against Aston Villa. That was when he caught my eye.

"Then in the summer, he became available.

"But I don't want to make too much of it at this stage. I'm having a look at him, and this gives him the chance to keep fit and play some football in our reserves.

"If we get a couple of injuries, he might find himself on the bench for the first team. But he's one for the future, and we'll keep monitoring him week by week."
