LIMBER little sprinters from six Macclesfield schools bashed it out in a town athletics competition last week.

More than 50 primary school pupils from Marlborough, Rainow, Dean Valley, Kettleshulme, Puss Bank and Hurdsfield competed in the event in a packed sports hall at Tytherington High School on Thursday.

Each team contained four boys and four girls, with two reserves waiting in the wings. Between them, they took part in an obstacle relay, and field events including standing long jump, chest push, javelin and speed bounce.

The deciding race was the sprint relay and it was Marlborough School who took the overall first place. Also included in the events was a teachers javelin throw.

Simon Mackintosh, director of school and community sport at Tytherington High, said: "The whole event was a really positive experience.

"Most of the primary school pupils taking part will come to Tytherington High in the future and it gave them an insight into what kind of sports activities they will be involved in when they get here.

"It's fantastic to see so many kids participating in activities like this and every one of them leaving with a big smile on their face."

"I would also like to thank everyone involved, especially school sports co-ordinator, Lucy Hull, who worked hard to help with the organisation."

Winners Marlborough and second-placed Rainow will now go forward to represent the Tytherington area in the Indoor Sportshall Athletics Finals on November 30 at Wilmslow High School.
