Blues coach Geoff Wappett is hoping Macclesfield can use the dual-registration scheme to their advantage.

Wappett has recruited well this summer, with former Stockport hooker – and aspiring Sale Shark – Tom Cruse among those joining the club.

And, with the National League One season looming, Wappett may perform a balancing act to bring success to Priory Park.

"With Tom Cruse we are the team loaning him to Sale," he said. "He’s under contract to us and he’s the type of player I want, one who can make forward progress, and I want young players to see that they can come here and do that.

"I have shied away from dual-registration loans in the past, it can be difficult to balance with a player – who is talented, without a doubt – coming in and taking another lad’s place in the team before he can go missing for three or four weeeks.

"I put a lot of store on camaraderie and how the lads respond to each other.

"Taking players from other clubs that come and go weakens the resolve.

"One of our strengths is that our lads stick up for each other and you need that when your backs are against the wall."

While his 10 signings are bedding in Wappett said that his transfer activity may not be over, with one or two other potential deals with the Premiership club in the pipeline.

But some of the players likely to be regulars in the Blues team are staking their places.

"Sam Marland trains fantastically well," he added. "He is a very exciting prospect and he’s only 19 so from a rugby point of view he’s still pretty ‘juvenile’ but he’s great to watch.

"Josh Fowles steamed into him intraining but he showed no sign of panicking, mentally or physically, he’s got some excellent attributes.

"And if Kirk Robinson is as tough as we think he can be he’ll be vital in the mental and physical battles when lesser men go missing."
