Macclesfield Town have retained the services of another of last season’s squad with Paul Lewis choosing to stay at the Moss Rose.

The former Everton midfielder, who made his senior debut in 2013, returned for pre-season training with the rest of the Macc squad on Thursday and has agreed to stay on for next season.

The 20-year-old made 27 league appearances for the club last season as John Askey’s men finished just outside the play-off places in non-league’s top flight.

Lewis joined Macc’s youth set-up from Everton and earned his first senior contract in the summer of 2013.

He made 22 appearances during the 2013/14 season and although a broken collarbone hindered his progress early last term, Lewis returned in January and earned a call-up to the England C side along with team-mate Andy Halls, another of last season’s squad to stay on with the Silkmen.

The Conference Premier has been renamed the Vanarama National League, which features Altrincham as well as Macc.

FC United and Curzon Ashton will be playing in the National League North for the first time after winning promotion last term.

They join Stockport County and Stalybridge Celtic at step two, and all will find out next season’s fixtures on Friday.

Meanwhile, Evo-Stik Premier side Ashton United have welcomed former player Paul Armstrong back to the club. The 29-year-old will assist joint-managers Paul Phillips and Steve Halford with coaching.
