ALDERLEY Edge’s up and coming junior star Tom Daniels won the prestigious 36-hole Hospital Trophy and recorded a new course record in the process.

His first round of 67-4=63 set a new record for the revised course layout, and he followed up with 69-4=65 for a 36 hole total of nett 128, one of the lowest winning totals for many years in a competition dating back to 1931.

The runner-up was Gary Johnstone.

Wilmslow’s ladies were in medal mode and leading in Division One was Nooshin Birch on 72 from Wendy Wynn (73).

Heather Christiansen was top of Division Two with 72 by four shots from Ann Smith and Morag Ravenscroft.

Wilmslow’s men played the first round of the spring meeting and setting the pace was TC Offer in Division One with 67 from DP McLeod (68) and Tom Sibley (71).

Division Two was led in by FM Werstcott (68) from Jan Sztokwski (69) and MJ Gardner (71).

Styal’s ladies played two singles Stablefords and it was close with Pat Chadwick, Sue Grange, Helen Billington, Sue Hair and Maureen Orr, all on 18 points.

Mixed action at Styal also produced a close result, a card play-off on 43 points going in favour of Claire Furnell and John Daldry from Enid and Rodney Laverty and Pat and Harry Chadwick.
