GOLF: ADRIAN Dobson picked up the biggest win of his golfing life in the Manchester Alliance President's day competition at Ringway.

The top trophy of the day was the President's Trophy awarded for the best nett score in the competition which saw a top class field of professionals and amateurs competing.

Styal Golf Club's young star Dobson posted a 73-5-68 card to win a cpo from Tom Burrell (Hart Common).

Styal's men played a President's qualifier and it produced a logjam on 69 at the top of the leaderboard with Anthony Laws getting the nod ahead of David Kidd, John Briggs and Simon Moran.

Styal ladies played a singles Stableford and Jenny Merren was top of the shop with 17, a point clear of Helen Billington and Joan Doyle.

In a ladies medal at Styal Gill Griffiths won from Sue Buller and Enid Bloxham.

Top gross score was posted by Chris Hawkins with 74.

Davenport's men played for their first 'major' - the Kennerley Salver and it was won by Division Two leader Dave Matkin with 63, beating Andrew Lowther by a shot. Bob Anderson took Division Three on 67 by a shot from Russ Siddall.

Wilmslow's men played for the Boddington and Haworth Cup and in Division One GR Maddock was top gun with 67 from S Jackson 69, JA Nichols 69 and Rodger Hill and M Robins, both 70.

R Boyce topped Division Two with 67, two shots clear of C McKeown and Simon Langdon.

Local golfers looking to enjoy the superb new greens at Northenden have two chances to try them out during the club's festival week.

The club invested in 18 new greens in 2005 and now they are reaping the benefits.

The first open competition is a betterball stableford competition on July 17, followed by a four-man team competition on July 20.
