There were no April fools on the tennis courts last Sunday at Alderley Edge CC, where the ‘Road to Wimbledon’ tournament was held.

A sunny day saw the 14 entrants prove how capable they were of playing some fine tennis.

All of matches were played in a great spirit with close, competitive games in which any player could have won on their day.

The final was between Henry Varden and Jack Ronnie ( pictured ) in which Henry won 10-6 in the final set championship tie-break.

ALDERLEY Edge Tennis Club treasurer James Stokes came close to claiming a double at the Cheshire Veterans County Championship at the start of the month. Having won the over-50s event, he was also runner-up in the over-45s on the same day.
