Pownall Hall School fast bowler Liam Branagan was celebrating after claiming his first ever hat-trick as the Wilmslow school lifted the Hale Barns Kwik Cricket Cup.

The son of former Wilmslow Wayfarers skipper Bob Branagan, Liam proved to be a chip off the old block as he hit a line and length that cut the ball both ways off the wicket.

His hat-trick heroics set up a tense final against arch-rivals Altrincham Preparatory School with Pownall smashing 60 runs off their eight overs.

Altrincham needed 12 off the last over to wrap up an improbable win.

However, the old adage that ‘catches win matches’ proved true with polished outfield cricket seeing three tough chances held in the deep.
