Macclesfield Boys Boxing Club welcomed top sports nutritionist Kerry Kayes to a recent workout.

Kayes, who was instrumental in Ricky Hatton’s worldwide success, joined European lightweight champion John Murray (pictured left of foreground) and English superfeatherweight champion Anthony Crolla (right) at the Sunderland Street gym’s recent seminar.

The venture was a joint initiative between MBBC and Ronan Carter’s Buxton BC, and Kayes explained to a large turnout of future stars, coaches and parents from both clubs the importance of nutrition and supplements and the potential impact on their careers.

Kayes is a former British champion bodybuilder and for many years has been working with top boxers and athletes, most famously as strength coach to Hatton. He spoke for around two hours on all aspects of sports nutrition for boxing, finishing the three guests taking a question and answer session.

Macc coach Jez Hough said: "On behalf of all who attended we would like to thank Kerry, John Murray and Anthony Crolla for their time and advice, which was very worthwhile."

This Saturday a host of MBBC fighters will be in the Grosvenor Centre in Macclesfield with a small display showcasing their talents.

* Tickets for the club’s annual showcase, to take place at Wilmslow Leisure Centre on Friday, February 4, are now available. Call Jez on 07747 566248 for details.
