Wilmslow HC men’s team got back in action with a thrilling 5-4 win at home to Bebington.

After a two-week break due to the weather, both teams were rusty but it was Wilmslow who broke through first with a fine solo effort from Willem Keune.

With Wilmslow’s defence looking strong, the midfield were allowed to push forward and it wasn’t long before Wilmslow doubled their lead through Roger Eden.

The Oakwood Farm side broke again with Keune tapping in following good work by Westbrook. Bebington’s slick attack play soon put paid to Wilmslow’s rout as they countered with two goals of their own before Eden put Wilmslow 4-2 ahead at the break.

With fitness showing in both teams, it was Bebington who took the second half to Wilmslow and relentlessly pressured the Wilmslow net, breaching it twice to equalise.

However, in the dying seconds, Mellor’s dynamic run was halted unfairly in the area and Westbrook coolly stepped up to score the resulting penalty corner to secure the three points for Wilmslow.
