Wilmslow Golf Club’s ambitious new professional Matt Gillingham is delighted to have completed the first stage of his ambitions to enhance the club’s standing as a leading venue and update its retail and commercial elements.

The revamped pro’s shop has all the leading brands and the 29-year-old, who came to Wilmslow last year from being the senior professional at Gleneagles, feels he’s well on course in achieving his aims at the Great Warford club.

Matt, pictured , said: "I’ve already had great support and encouragement from members and can offer top coaching as well as good deals in the shop.

"I’ll soon have an assistant Sam Matthews, a first year PGA trainee, and will be looking to develop a custom fitting and indoor teaching facility.

"Members will be kept informed of the work being done on the club website and I’m sure that they’ll enjoy all of the new developments which will come into place this year."

A Sunday Stableford at Styal was won by Declan McKelvey with 41 points seeing him two clear of John Chorlton.

It was tight in the latest Seniors Winter League with three players locked on 37 points. Alan Carroll got the nod after the card play-off from Eddie Austin and former cricket legend Jim Marshall.

Styal ladies were also in Winter League action and lady captain Sue Grange led from the front with 27 points, eight points ahead of Enid Laverty and Yee Lee.

Winter League action also went ahead at Shrigley Hall with Andrew Bryce on top with 39 points, one ahead of Simon Miehe.

In a Thursday Stableford at Shrigley David Durling was out on his own with 36 points from Peter Duffy (34) and Keith Felstead (32).

Shrigley fireman Darren Whittaker extinguished the hopes of Division One players in their monthly medal with a 68 to beat captain Don Farquharson (70) and Richard Burrow (71).

The in-form David Durling topped Division Two with his 66 giving him a six-shot advantage over Peter Dooley.

Davenport’s men played a singles Stableford and Jon Lloyd cruised to victory in division one with 29 points, four more than Steve Jackson.

Keith Worrall led in Division Two with 26 points, one more than Tony Sieben.

The Manchester Alliance exploded back into life with a full field enjoying the challenging and well-presented De Vere Wychwood Park as they resumed the second half of their busy winter programme in the BB Stableford competition, sponsored by Malcolm Thornley of Wilson Staff.

There was a terrific battle for the individual professional’s prize with Order of Merit leaders Graham Cox, David Smith and Grant Hamerton all absent abroad.

Haigh Hall’s Alan Crompton took advantage with his 69 giving him 39 points.

A point off the pace were club colleague Craig Corrigan, Birchwood’s Phil Archer and Martyn Hamer of Ellesmere.

The top pro-am pair with 42 points were Disley duo Scott Jackson and Matt Wragg, who won a cpo from Alan Crompton and Haigh Hall partner Tony Culshaw.

Phil Archer teamed up with Anton Johnson of Warrington to take third place with 41 points.

Alliance treasurer Vinny Doyle moved up the amateur Order of Merit as he partnered Blackley club mate Darren Tickle to a winning 39 points.
