Styal's 17-year-old Cheshire scratch star Charlotte Leathem is the new Cheshire Girls champion.

The Wilmslow High School student has been in consistent form this season to earn a place on the full Cheshire team to compete in the Northern Counties championship following a dedicated winter season of hard work on her game.

Charlotte played her part for Cheshire picking up several points over five gruelling days to help Cheshire to a creditable third spot behind winners Lancashire and runners-up Yorkshire.

The junior championship was played in demanding conditions at Sandiway Golf Club and Charlotte posted a fine gross score of 74 to finish two shots clear of Cheshire team mate Poppy Finlay (Vicars Cross). Other winners were Rian Moores (Vale Royal Abbey) who took the u16 scratch trophy by six shots from Rayhannah Saboonpaz (Vicars Cross).

The u14 scratch trophy was won by Hannah Li (Tytherington) with 88 ahead of Victoria Turner (Sandiway) 94.

The coveted Pook Trophy for the best handicap score went to Sophie Jamieson (Heswall) 68, from Emily McBurney (Royal Liverpool).

Finally the junior competition over eight holes went to Maisie Bray of Prestbury with 22 points.

Back at Styal their ever-busy seniors were in Stableford mode and Len Rowland won a cpo on 40 points from Les Rimmer with David Melia and Stuart Neil two points adrift.

Nick Saberton won a Wednesday medal at Styal with 65 seeing him five shots clear of the field.

Styal ladies played their monthly medal and Danuta Silva led in with 69, ahead of Jenny Merren 71 and Jane Sopla, Rita Barton, Natalie Lowe and Pam Higgins, all 74.

The Captain’s Charity medal at Prestbury was won in emphatic style by Stuart Taylor with his nett 65 seeing him romp home from James Offer 69, and George Payne and Paul Nixon, both 71.
