THE cream of the town's boxing talent put on a spectacular show when Macclesfield Boys Boxing Club staged their annual fight night.

Head coach Kevin Bradbury put together 13 thrilling bouts, with a host club boxer featuring in every contest, in front of a full house at Wilmslow Leisure Centre.

Among the 700-strong crowd were the club's honourary president Stevie Bell, who is a professional fighter and former double ABA featherweight champion, and Mayor of Macclesfield, councillor Norman Edwards.

Opening the show was Macc schoolboy Jonathan Thomson, who lost out on a points verdict to Bredbury's Yan Khaul, but there was glory for 11-year-old Jake Haigh who outpointed Chris Sowter from Ashbourne. Bredbury southpaw Mark Lee defeated a gutsy Aaron Walsh, but Macc's Anna Perry turned on the style on her debut in the ring to beat Steel City's Chelsea Smith, and claim the Best Boxer Award on the night.

Controlled accurate punches helped Michael Fitzpatrick beat his opponent, while Peter Bebbington didn't disappoint the sell-out crowd in a cracking unanimous victory against Dean Cawert from Stoke. Lewis Taylor also took the honours with some solid shots, while the talented Liam Hanrahan proved far too good for Leek's Michael Keats as he recorded a unanimous points victory.

Wilmslow lad Josh Spence impressed his home crowd to beat his Stoke opponent, but there was disappointment for Amin Mamoon when he was on the wrong end of a unanimous verdict after a ferocious encounter. Louis Poynton dominated his bout before claiming a unanimous victory, debutant Joe Collins lost out against his Old Trafford opponent and, in the final contest of the night, Luke Hawcroft missed out on a points verdict.
