Macclesfield Town’s poor run of form continued after they suffered a narrow loss against league leaders Forest Green Rovers on Saturday.

Charlie Clough scored a stoppage time winner for the hosts to condemn Macc to defeat at the New Lawn Stadium.

It means that the Silkmen have now lost their last three matches in the National League, leaving them in eighth place and three points outside the play-off places.

Macclesfield were the better team in the opening stages of the match, with Jack Sampson causing a number of problems for the opposition defence.

It was Sampson who then made the breakthrough on 69 minutes, capitalising on a mistake from the Rovers defence before slotting the ball home to make it 1-0.

John Askey’s side weren’t ahead for long though as James Jennings levelled things up for Forest Green eight minutes later when he got on the end of Elliot Frear’s free-kick.

Macclesfield were then dealt a cruel blow in injury time when Clough scored from close range to make it 2-1 and send the Silkmen home empty-handed.

Macc will now hope that they can return to winning ways when they travel to Torquay United in the FA Trophy this weekend.
