Barnet 3 Macc Town 1

Macclesfield's charge to the top stalled with defeat at league leaders Barnet.

Though Adriano Moke had given the Silkmen a half-time lead, two goals in the space of four minutes saw the Bees take the upper hand, with a lead they added to in injury-time.

Macc had been forced on the back foot virtually throughout the first half, but turned around a goal to the good, thanks to Moke's strike three minutes before the break.

Collecting a half-clearance the winger drilled a low effort that, with Bees keeper Graham Stack rooted to the spot, nestled in the corner of the goal.

Although a deflected shot from Scott Barrow crashed against the post midway through the half Barnet could consider themselves unlucky to be behind at the halfway mark.

Rhys Taylor had repelled everything Barnet had thrown at his goal, although the visitors were given a real let-off when Luisma Villa blazed over their best chance, from John Akinde's knock-down. Akinde had gone close himself with Macc under the cosh, but his shot was turned over the bar by his strike partner Charlie MacDonald.

But if the Bees had been wasteful in the first half, a clinical four-minute spell early in the second saw them tighten their grip on top spot.

Right-back Andy Yiadom was on hand to level the match from point-blank range on 57 minutes, turning in MacDonald's ball across goal. And when Akinde headed in just after the hour mark Macc had a mountain to climb.

It almost got worse when Lee Cook hit the upright with Taylor beaten, but the Bees – beaten by Bristol Rovers in midweek – had more than done enough to deserve their win.

With Macc chasing an equaliser, Curtis Weston added insult to injury with a third goal, but few could deny them their victory.
