Home comfort should be the catalyst for maximum points for Macclesfield Town.

That’s manager John Askey’s assessment as he targets full marks from hosting Alfreton Town on Saturday, with Torquay United making the long journey north three days later.

And back on home turf after a tough assignment at Welling last weekend, Askey is keen for Macc to send both sets of visitors, one team in the drop-zone and another on a slide down the table, away pointless.

His sixth-placed side have now gone seven league games without tasting defeat and with the Moss Rose still unconquered this term, Askey’s targeting a full quota on offer from those two games.

“We’re looking for six points and we can get them if we carry on our current form and put another big effort in – if we get complacent and don’t perform we won’t get anything though,” he said.

“The players want to carry on going. I’m a little bit wary, I’m concerned about our set-piece defending, which is a small but very important part of games, and although we haven’t put in the best performances in the last couple of games, I’m happy with the results.

“We want to go out and reward those coming to watch and hope we can get our gates to go up.”

Danny Rowe, in action for Macc Town last term

Saturday's visitors have barely been out of the bottom four this season and will be in 22nd place come 3pm. They're also among the least prolific in front of goal. Only Nuneaton have hit fewer than Nicky Law's Reds this season.

The Macc boss will have his captain Paul Turnbull available again to face the struggling Alfreton after his suspension at Welling, but Will Haining looks set for a spell out, the length of which will depend on the result of a scan on his troublesome thigh.

In the meantime, Askey has welcomed a familiar face back to the club, as Danny Rowe is back training with the Silkmen.

The former Stockport winger had a brief spell at Southport earlier this season. While he’s yet to sign up Askey’s full of praise for Rowe’s skills, adding: “We know Danny’s got a lot of ability, he was with Southport for a few weeks but he’s done nothing since.

“So there’s a possibility we can bring him in. If we do we’ll have someone we know all about that’s talented, has the right character and can change games.”
