ABJECT Macclesfield stumbled towards the Football League trap door as they were victims of a second half rout from the powerful Posh.

It was manager Ian Brightwell’s fifth successive home defeat with Macclesfield not winning in nine games, leaving a huge question mark over his future at Moss Rose.

He, however, denied he was under any pressure saying: “That is when you are sent to Afghanistan or Iraq. There is no point in crying about it, we’ve just got to get on with the job.”

His half time team talk seemed to send his side to sleep as only 30 seconds after the break they failed to clear a long throw from Chris Whelpdale, allowing George Boyd to clip home from eight yards.

The Posh took control in the 64th minute when Whelpdale curled home a 20 yard drive to the far corner and worse was to follow in the 72nd minute when livewire Alan McLean brushed past the lumbering Luke Dimech to thunder home his 27th goal of the season from 15 yards.
