Striker Vinny Mukendi has joined Southport on a month’s loan deal.

The academy product has struggled with various injury problems this season and has made the switch to the Blue Square Bet Premier side.

Nineteen-year-old Mukendi made his debut as a substitute on Saturday in the Sandgrounders’ 4-0 home defeat to Braintree.

Macc boss Gary Simpson said: "Vinny needs to get some games under his belt, he really needs some 90-minutes. He’s been injured on and off for most of the season.

"The other lads who we’ve sent out on loan have benefited, you can see they’re stronger, fitter and sharper in training. They’re match-sharp and I’m hoping that will happen with Vinny."

Simpson has also made a precautionary loan signing of his own, bringing in Steve Collis as back-up to Jose Veiga after an injury ruled out Jack Cudworth.

"It was a calculated decision," he added. "If we happened to get an injury to Jose ahead of the FA Cup first round we could have been in trouble.

"I’d have been a fool not to cover ourselves a little bit."
