With the league decider between Club AZ and FC Flyers postponed until Wednesday and the Cheadle v Poynton Kings clash also not going ahead there were only two games played in the ECL.

However, both games provided plenty of goals.

At Crossford Bridge the Old Alts derby ended 3-3, a result which sees both teams end the season in the bottom three.

Striker Tom Masey got East off to the perfect start with a goal after only two minutes but unfortunately it was his last contribution to the match as he limped off shortly afterwards with a pulled hamstring.

Dean Duignan pulled the visitors level on the half hour as he beat two defenders and fired a shot low into the bottom corner and the teams went in level at half time. Duignan added a second after the break but East equalised through their top scorer, Nick Scholes.

Ben Byers restored the visitors’ lead with 20 minutes remaining but with two minutes to go and with the A team heading for victory Chris Murray managed to score somewhat spectacularly past his own keeper to give East a well deserved share of the spoils.

Poynton Nomads ended their league campaign in sixth after a 4-2 victory at home to Mary Dendy.

Dendy were hoping to build on their brave midweek performance in the Subsidiary Cup semi-final against Club AZ where they led the Brian Hillson League Cup winners 1-0 with five minutes remaining but eventually succumbed 3-1 .

At Poynton Dendy created chances at 0-0 but it was Nomads who opened up a two-goal lead thanks to Jake Lodge and Stuart Johnston.

Adam Taylor pulled one back before half time and Matty Morris completed the comeback as he made it 2-2 early in the second half.

Jake Lodge scored his second of the game to make it 3-2 before Tom Gaskell, showing no ill-effects of running the London Marathon in a very respectable 4hr 44min with his brother Jack last Sunday, headed home number four to seal the victory.

The Gaskell brothers ran last week’s marathon to raise money for the East Cheshire Hospice.
