The Macclesfield and District Sunday League exploded back into action with a full fixture list, plenty of goals and some great games.

AC Bollan produced their best display of the season so far smashing Prestbury Club 6-1 at Bolly Rec. promising winger James Wheeler stole the show, scoring four times but it was the all-round team performance that impressed manager Chris Stacey.

Tim Hammond and Andy Davies completed the scoring in what is only AC’s second league win of the season. Stan Williams–Arnold notched a consolation for Prestbury.

A crunch game saw Pack Horse stretch their lead at the top of the table to three points after a 4-1 win over a decent Vale side, despite falling behind to a Tom Jackson strike in the first half.

Two goals from Simon Gibbons and Lee Malkin’s wonder goal – taking the ball from inside his own half and carving through the Vale defence – secured the points, even before Harry Wheetman added a fourth.

Boarhound will be wondering what went wrong as they let a two goal lead slip to end up on the wrong side of a 4-2 defeat at home to Ox-fford.

Dec Fletcher and Craig Hayes had put the home side 2-0 up inside 20 minutes but Dave Billington pulled one back for Ox-fford.

The introduction of Liam Hadfield in midfield proved instrumental in Oxfford’s comeback, as Lewis Short scored two before Billington rounded off a great second half with his second of the game to take the Oxfford up to second in the table.

A bad day at the office for Steve Coppenhall’s Macc Boys Seniors saw them slip to a 4-3 home defeat to 10-man Albion Rovers.

The defeat puts the Seniors bottom of the division but the loss to Albion, who were reduced to 10 men in the first half, was a bitter blow.

Four-midable

Jamie Collins once again proved his worth to the Albion team as he claimed all four goals while Chris Coppenhall and Chris Hadfield were both on target for Seniors. An own goal accounted for their third.

In Division One, Scott Wright’s last-minute leveller earned Queens a valuable point in a 4-4 draw at Nags Head. The game was delicately poised after the sides shared six first-half goals.

Neil Smith put Nags into the lead in the second half but it wasn’t enough as Wright nipped in to equalise.

Chilli Banana won their derby at a depleted Sporting Kerridge 7-2. Kerridge held out until Mark Meszaros emphatically opened the scoring on 18 minutes. His second was followed by a goal for Pete Thompson and the impressive Scott Sanders added the fourth.

In the second half, Dave Findlow struck to give Sporting some hope but a Meszaros penalty put the result beyond doubt. Kieron Shenton and Jack Hoyle hit numbers six and seven before a Chilli own goal made the final score 7-2.

Spinners had a momentum-gathering 7-0 win over Chester Road Tavern and are handily-placed for a title assault.

Andy Foote was tormentor-in-chief with five goals, with Dave lovatt and Dave Grindey completing the rout for Spinners, who have four games in hand on the leaders.

Poynton had a well-deserved 3-0 victory that ended any realistic chance of FC Congleton contesting for the league title. Leon Eadsforth scored twice and Karl Meredith added a third.

Tythy Juniors beat Poynton Legion by the same scoreline and their season has really turned around after a shaky start.

They were shut out in the first half thanks mainly to Matt Smith and Simon Williams’ outstanding defence, but goals by Lee McIntyre, Lewis Evans and Nick Hadfield secured the points.

A four-goal blitz in the first half was enough for Macc Boys Juniors to see off Blueberry. Dave Short scored twice, Neil Woodhall grabbed one and centre-half Aaron Loftus notched his first goal of the season.

An important 4-1 win for Hollins over Railway View took them six points clear at the top of the table.

It was their endurance that eventually won the day as they scored four in the second half having trailed 1-0 at half-time to a header from Ryan Stewart. Rick Tolley, Nick Brunker, Gaz Burns and Matt Beswick were all on target as Hollins took the points.
