MACC Town will host one of the biggest games ever seen at the Moss Rose in January, after drawing Premiership side Everton in the FA Cup.

Macc booked their place in the third-round draw with a 3-1 win at Port Vale on Friday night.

Immediately after the victory, Macc boss Keith Alexander had hoped for "the lowest non-league team left in it" but Sunday’s draw means Alexander and his players must test their mettle against David Moyes’ Merseyside giants.

Franny Green hit a smart opening goal on the turn against the Valiants in an impressive first half for the Silkmen but Louis Dodds levelled matters with 20 minutes remaining.

Green restored the lead almoist immediately, latching onto a suicidal back-pass from Luke Prosser to beat keeper Joe Anyon.

As the home side searched for an equaliser, Martin Gritton collected a pass from substitute Ahmed Deen and held off Anthony Griffith to settle the tie.

Macc’s reward is a chance to cause a massive upset when they face the five-time FA Cup winners on January 3, and reach the fourth round for the first time in the club’s history.

Their last foray into the third round ended in a 6-1 defeat at Chelsea, then-manager Paul Ince watching as Macc finished the game with nine men and a lot of credit.

"The bottom line is that we want to reach the fourth round, and I would have liked one of the teams below us," said Alexander. "The fans won’t have to travel and hopefully it will be a great day for them and everyone involved. Let’s hope Everton won’t be relishing coming to Macclesfield."
