Chris Holroyd insists there is no place like home after yesterday becoming the latest player to re-sign with Macclesfield Town.

This week captain Paul Turnbull, Danny Rowe, George Pilkington and keeper Ritchie Branagan all committed themselves to Macc for another year.

Manager John Askey also agreed an improved deal for next term’s Vanarama National League campaign after just missing out on the play-offs last season.

And Holroyd, who was born in Macc, has followed suit having found a home at the Moss Rose after joining the Silkmen on a permanent basis in August 2013.

“I have really enjoyed the last two years that I have had at Macclesfield,” said the 28-year-old striker.

“I said last summer that this was the only club that I wanted to sign for and it was the same again this summer. I am delighted to sign.”

Crewe signed Holroyd as a youth player before he moved onto Chester, where he made his first-team breakthrough.

He later had spells with Cambridge, Brighton and Rotherham, before joining his hometown club for the first time - on loan from Preston in August 2012.

After scoring nine goals from 15 starts for Macc, Holroyd was signed by Morecambe in January 2013, only for them to release him that summer.

The local lad then returned to Macc and has since scored 11 goals from 55 league starts for the Silkmen.

“We want to build on the momentum from the last couple of seasons,” he added.

“We have a bit of stability now in terms of the manager and the squad, and we want to take that into next season.

“I think we can kick on again. Last year we built a real fortress at home and we want to do the same again this season.

“The fans played a big part in that and I am sure they will again next season. I just can’t wait to get going again.”
