MACCLESFIELD Golf Club had a full turn out of 190 players for the 'major' Abraham Trophy.

More than 190 men played for the trophy, enjoying glorious conditions on a course that was a credit to the head greenkeeper and staff.

Captain Jack Buckley thanked Angus Abraham, who was recovering from an operation and wished him a speedy recovery, while life member Bill Milligan gave an excellent insight into the tradition of the trophy.

Third place went to Phil Brown, winning on a card play-off on 66, second place went to Peter Ormesher with a fine 65.

However, the winner was Dave Edge with an 81 gross.

Best golfer of the day was James D'arcy with a gross 70.

It was yet another 'major' trophy for the Perry family when Alan Perry won the Memorial Trophy at Prestbury to keep up the family name, following recent winner Martin Perry.

Macclesfield ladies have been busy in competitions with the Anne Brammer Trophy going to L Monk after a cpo on 68 with Gill Usher.

The club Stableford winner was K Dean with 40 points and qualifying for the next stage of the Ping BB were W Higgins and K Atkin.

An invitational am-am at Davenport saw a healthy 19 teams competing and leading in with 82 points were the fab four of Chris and Pat Massey and Philip and Linda Leah from Steve Johnson, Steve Jackson, Ivan Wilberforce and John Lloyd with 81.

Manchester's Channel M station is resuming its popular coverage of golf on Thursday evenings.

The golf feature will be in the news broadcasts between 5pm and 7pm and also from 9 to 10pm.

During the summer months the golf coverage will concentrate on local clubs with professionals showing viewers around the course, playing the club's signature hole and other features.
