Wilmslow Wayfarers suffered their first league defeat of the season as they were beaten by neighbours Wilmslow.

Wilmslow not only secured bragging rights but also moved 32 points clear at the top of the table with a five-wicket win over their rivals.

Wayfarers batted first on a seamer-friendly track and, due to excellent bowling from Tom Rowe (5-21) and Jags Narayaran (4-25), they were reduced to 30-9 at one stage.

With the track starting to dry out a final-wicket stand of 55 from Yousuf Bhamjee (18) and Ant Mape (25 not out) gave Wayfarers something to defend as their innings closed on 88 all out.

In response, Wilmslow openers Elliot Rowe and Andy Gill put on a steady 38 before Gill played on for a respectable 28.

Rowe nearly saw it through, and there were some scares as Mike Smith took a ‘five-fer’ but it was a comfortable win for Wilmslow as they reached 89-5.

Wayfarers’ seconds were bowled out for just 42 inside 16 overs by their Wilmslow counterparts in the second XI match at Oakwood Farm.

The credit went to Lomax, who took 5-20, Pickup (2-17) and Hart (2-0).

In reply the visitors lost three wickets but reached their target for a first win in three games.

Wilmslow’s third XI had their first defeat of the season, by one wicket at Haughton Green.

Wayfarers recovered from their defeat to shock Ashton-on-Mersey in the Cheshire Shield.

Four divisions lower down, they played magnificently to bowl Ashton out for 172.

Their reply stumbled to 18-2 but Joel Unsworth’s 50 steadied the ship. It was then left to Luke Unsworth (49 not out) and Mike Smith (21 not out) to see them home.
