Wilmslow Wayfarers created some breathing space in the promotion hunt of Cheshire Cricket Alliance Division Two after victory over third-placed Holmes Chapel.

Batting first, Holmes struggled with the sub-standard pitch as they scored 79 all out, thanks mainly to their captain Rebbeck’s 46.

For Wayfarers, paceman Martyn Baldwin (4-48) and swinger Ant Mape (6-25) were the wicket takers.

Wayfarers slumped to 19-6 in reply but Martin Wright (36 not out) and Khateer Zeb (16) edged Wayfarers to victory as they won by three wickets.

Meanwhile, Wayfarers’s second XI completed a good win at Rylands.

Bowling first, Danny Wright (3-27), Ishmail Chunara (3-42) and Saeed Bhamjee (3-20) restricted the home side to 136 all out.

In response, Bhamjee (46 not out) and Colin Henshall (30) helped Wayfarers cross the line with cameos from Ken Barlow (14) and Richard Branagan (11) ensuring Wayfarers claimed the 25 points.

WAYFARERS’ second XI lost their cup semi-final game against Trinity on Sunday.

Wayfarers bowled the visitors out for 99, thanks largely to Joey Unsworth’s 4-7 and Martyn Baldwin’s 2-18.

However, the home side mustered only 69 in reply as only the Unsworth pair of Joey (17) and Luke (13 not out) managed to get into double figures.
