A largely successful weekend for a holiday-hit Wilmslow with two wins from three, the promotion chasing second XI unfortunately losing narrowly to close rivals Saughall.

Tom Rowe was the star of the firsts’ three-wicket win at home to Norbury. His seven-wicket haul – started with the first ball of the day – was a season’s best.

To the visitors’ credit they dug in and recovered from 20-5 to reach 163 all out. After a good start Wilmslow’s reply stuttered, but 55 from Steve Fulker, and Adam Dixon’s brutal 26 saw them home.

Tim Conniffe’s 80 nearly took the second team to an unlikely victory, but a total of 135 was always at least 20 short. Aaron Carr took three wickets, but they fell short.

Wilmslow’s depleted third XI travelled to Salford Jewish, where they posted 270. Metzelaar and Harding put on over 100 for the first wicket, Fitzpatrick and Rodman hit quickfire 30s to present the hosts with a daunting task.

With Patel and Rodman fired up and an unbelievable spell from Fitzpatrick with six wickets for just three runs saw the Squirrels win by 207 runs.
