Langley had a great weekend at Cockhall Lane, posting two wins, defeating Haslington in the league on Saturday and the unbeaten Groves in the cup on Sunday.

On Saturday 10-man Haslington posted 121 all out, finding the pace of Matt Betteridge all too much as he took 5-71.

He was assisted by Rick Hollinshead (2-13) and Mat Barber (1-37) who were the three bowlers used.

In reply, Langley sauntered to a seven-wicket victory, scoring 124-3. Dave Gay (34) and Ed Johnson (29) led the way as Langley made it six league wins on the trot and sit in fourth place in the league, 39 points behind league leaders The Groves and 12 points off second place Chelford.

Langley advanced to the semi-final of the League Cup with a dramatic win at Cockhall on Sunday in a game that ebbed and flowed.

Skipper Stevens won the toss and elected to bat and the hosts were shocked to see John Susans in a flamboyant mood as he struck his maiden 50 off just 56 balls.

Langley reached 66 before Johnson was bowled for a pedestrian 15, his much more attacking partner soon following for 50.

Gay (26) and Chris Pattison (27) both made useful contributions but it was the cup expert Ian Platt who stole the show, plundering 104 off just 72 balls as Langley posted 267-9 off their 40 overs.

In reply, Groves made a solid start as Evans (35) and Garvey (36) gave them a solid platform, but three quick wickets from Barber, including a fine diving catch from Stevens, and a wicket from Susans saw the visiters reduced to 102-4.

With nine an over needed defeat looked certain but Ward’s 48 off 34 balls and Caulfield’s 61 off 34 balls changed the momentum of the match as Langley began to panic.

Betteridge returned to dismiss Caulfield and engineer Ward’s run out, but the Groves battled on and it’s not hard to see why they have won all their completed matches this season as the tail wagged, with 20 needed off four overs with three wickets left.

Tim Pattison returned to the attack and took two wickets, trapping Garret LBW for 19 and caught and bowling Ball for a duck. In his next over Pattison bowled Piercy as Langley claimed a nine-run victory with nine balls remaining.

For Langley Tim Pattison finished with 3-33 , Barber 3-61, Susans 2-67, Betteridge 1-37 and Frame 0-23.

Langley go to Wilmslow next Saturday.
