A?close defeat in their final fixture at home to Davenham saw Bollington lose their Cheshire County League status.
Batting first Bolly did well to muster 183-8 from their 50 overs mainly thanks to Travis Salisbury (39), Matt Dawson (35) and Rick Hough (31).
In reply the visitors were in all sorts of trouble at 25-5 as Mo Ali and Syed Khan bowled superbly.
But Ben Gough, who hit 60, and South African Johan Loubser, who contributed 42, got them out of trouble and guided Davenham home in the penultimate over.
It could have been a different outcome had Ali – who took 5-22 – had not been taken lame but that’s the kind of luck that teams at the bottom suffer all-too often.
Davenham’s success rubber-stamped their promotion to the County League Division One next season while Bolly’s 10-year stay in the county’s top competition came to a sorry end.
It has been a poor season for Bolly throughout and despite improved results during the last quarter of the season the damage had already been done with only three league victories all season.
Bolly will look to regroup over the winter before starting life in the TACS Cheshire Cricket League in 2014.
