More than 50 children took part in all-singing, all-dancing musical performances on stage.

The youngsters from the Primary Youth Performing Society (PYPS) performed for families and the public at Mottram St Andrew Village Hall.

The youngest members, aged four to seven, performed their musical play ‘The Moon Thieves’ while the older members, from eight to 11, performed comedy musical ‘Robin and the Sherwood Hoodies’.

Director Sally Hunt said she was impressed with the young talent.

She said: “Libby Senior as Robin Hood gave an outstanding performance and Abigail Clark was a perfect Maid Marion.

“Jayden Conaway-Smith as the Sheriff of Nottingham and Oliver Shamim as King John played fantastic comedic baddies. Louie Shamim as ‘Nursie’, played a wonderful dame.

“Abigail Beton, Martha Simpson and Lucy Jones showed great understanding and timing in their comedy roles, whilst Eva Spilsbury was a very good narrator linking the show together.

“There was talent in breadth and depth, and they all worked fantastically as a team on stage supporting each other. It was clear to everyone how much they were enjoying themselves.”

PYPS shows are always accompanied by a live band, with some of the PYPS cast playing in the band for the Mini-PYPS play. Students from Wilmslow High School and Fallibroome Academy in Macclesfield joined the band for the PYPS show.

Sally said performing arts help to boost children’s self confidence.

She said: “The achievement of a great end result as the reward for their commitment and efforts are important lessons to learn in life.

“Students from Wilmslow High School gave invaluable help with props and backstage. They were great role models for the young cast and a credit to their school.”

Rehearsals for the July PYPS and Mini-PYPS shows are starting again on Saturday afternoons at Dean Row Community Centre. To take part ring Sally Hunt on 07968 770913 for information.
