Macclesfield may have avoided flooding but the heavy rain still caused major problems for two walkers who had to be recovered by the mountain rescue team.

A 45-year-old woman from Siddington was airlifted to hospital after slipping at Teggs Nose on Monday afternoon (December 28), and a 52-year-old lady from Middlewich had to be rescued after twisting her ankle on a muddy path along the Dane Valley Way in Wincle.

The Buxton and Mountain Rescue team was called to assist the ambulance in both incidents, helping to transfer the patients from difficult locations down to the waiting ambulance and air ambulance.

A spokesman for the team said: “The recent heavy rain had made many of the paths very slippery resulting in a tumble for a 45-year-old lady from Siddington.

“Paramedics from North West Ambulance Service and the North West Air-ambulance were first on scene to treat her leg injury but required assistance to transfer the casualty from the scene to the aircraft waiting on level ground at Clough Farm.

“It was a short but steep descent on a mountain rescue stretcher but within thirty minutes the lady was being lifted into the air-ambulance for a short trip to Macclesfield hospital.

“Before the aircraft could lift off a second call for the mountain rescue was received, this time to the Dane Valley near Wincle.”

He added: “The team was already engaged on a call-out at Teggs Nose so additional members were called to arrive at Dane Bridge, Wincle, in advance of the team vehicles which were close behind.

“The location of the accident site meant a walk in of over a kilometre for members with the equipment but quickly rendezvoused with ambulance paramedics already treating the casualty.

“Following medical treatment the lady was placed on a rescue stretcher for a carry-out to the waiting ambulance and onward transport to Macclesfield hospital.”

A spokesperson for the North West Ambulance Service said they were called to Teggs Nose at about 1.25pm, and to Dane Valley Way at around 2.15pm.

She said: “Both patients were taken to Macclesfield hospital with minor injuries.”
