POLICE have slammed two teenagers caught smoking drugs near a funeral.

The 19-year-olds were collared near the entrance to Macclesfield Crematorium on Prestbury Road at 3.15pm on April 7.

They were detained by a PCSO and then searched by an officer who found a small quantity of cannabis on them.

The teens were given a street caution but won’t face criminal prosecution.

Macclesfield Police used Twitter to criticise the pair: “2 males issued cannabis warning forms in Macc Cemetery for smoking a joint in public during a funeral service! #havealittlerespect”.

The incident follows concerns over drug dealing and drugs in and around the cemetery and West Park.

Sgt Simon Degg said police have stepped up patrols in the area.

He said: “People want to go to the crematorium to pay their respects to loved ones. This behaviour is not acceptable.

“The street caution does represent the previous good character and admissions of both boys and the proportionate action we take.”

If you have any concerns about drugs call Cheshire police on 101.
