Hundreds of homes were affected by a powerful storm which swept across Macclesfield, last night.
Storm Eleanor wreaked havoc to as many as 480 homes, which were without electricity for more than three hours as winds surpassed 50mph.
The fault mainly affected people living in Bollington, Prestbury and Rainow and the SK10 postcode.
Engineers from Electricity North West were out early on Wednesday morning to restore power to homes in the town and has apologised for the inconvenience.
A spokesperson for Electricity North West wrote on Twitter: “We first got made aware of this at 06:14 and then they was restored at 09:52. Our customers was without power for three hours and 38 minutes.
“The initial number of customers affected was 480. We had staff on site at 08:11 and now the power has been restored to all customer at 09:52.”
On Tuesday, January 2, the Met Office issued a yellow warning of high winds of up to 70mph, which were expected to last from 6pm on Tuesday, January 2 until Wednesday, January 3.
Police and fire services in Cheshire have warned drivers of standing water on roads across the county, as the high winds continued into Wednesday morning.
In a tweet Cheshire Police wrote: “Storm Eleanor is going to continue throughout Wednesday. Some areas of Cheshire are affected by the high winds and in some places low level flooding. Please take care when using the roads especially those affected by water or by tree debris.”
Across the North West, as many as 3,000 homes have now had power restored, after a tumultuous night.
The Met Office is still warning people to expect Storm Eleanor to rumble on and has issued another yellow warning of high winds between 10.15am and 7pm on Wednesday, January 3.
According to The Met Office Website: “Storm Eleanor is now over the North Sea and although winds are not expected to be as strong as during Tuesday evening and last night, it has left a swath of strong winds in its wake.”
