Villagers showed their holiday spirit making creations for Rainow Scarecrow Festival.

More than 70 scarecrows are on display along the theme High Days and Holidays. Residents, youth groups and other community organisations made scarecrows for 14th annual festival organised by the committee which also runs Rainow Church Fete, which took place at the weekend.

The winners were residents from Hough Close which became ‘Hough Cove’ for the festival after they turned it into a seaside scene.

Peter Nixon, chairman, said: “We encourage people to enter as it brings visitors to Rainow. It’s really put Rainow on the map. People get really creative with the theme and there are some fantastic entries.”

Mayor of Rainow and retiring headteacher Mark Bertinshaw crowned Bella Clayton who replaced Emily Stringer as rose queen for the fete at Hough Hole Farm which attracted around 700 people. Proceeds go to East Cheshire Hospice, Rainow community groups and the church.

Scarecrows are on display until Sunday, July 24. Refreshments and maps are available midday to 8pm at the church centre.
