A racy couple swapped traditional wedding cars for old bangers to show their mutual love of the motors.

Charlotte and Tim Moore injected some adrenaline into the start of their married life when they used their banger racers as wedding cars for their big day.

The unconventional vehicles were the obvious choice for the couple, who both enjoy banger racing at Buxton Raceway.

Tim, 35, of Cornwall Close, started racing bangers five years ago and Charlotte took part in her first ladies race last year after Tim got hold of a car for her.

The pair, who have sons Elias, eight, and Manny, three, hope having the bangers at their wedding will mean they keep the excitement in their married life.

Charlotte, nee Burgess, said: “We just had to do it. We both love racing.

“It’s the thrill, adrenaline and the freedom and go as fast as you want. We thought having the cars at the wedding would be the perfect start to married life.

“It’s something we enjoy together and our son Manny loves it too.”

Charlotte, 32, added that she has been on a racing hiatus over fears she may injure herself ahead of the wedding.

She said: “I was terrified when I first raced, but it was brilliant. I haven’t raced since due to a self imposed ban before the wedding for fear of injuring myself. But I can’t wait to get back behind the wheel.”

The couple’s cars are donated by scrap metal merchants Mavericks of Macclesfield, so Tim, a self-employed electrician, is known as ‘Maverick’ when he races.

He strips out the scrap cars and adds roll cage and safety features before getting them spray painted for racing.

He drove to the wedding at St Alban’s Church in a specially painted racer, a yellow Ford Focus, along with his sons.

Charlotte joined the family in the car - which is yet to hit the race track - after the ceremony to travel to the reception at Macclesfield Rugby Club.

Also on show were three more of Tim’s bangers, which he took on a trailer to the venue before the wedding.

Charlotte, 32, a self employed nail technician, said: “Tim doesn’t win his races, it’s not about the winning, but he’s well known for smashing into other cars.

“It’s about putting on a good show. It is dangerous but Tim loves it, it’s his passion.”
