Police are stepping up patrols at Macclesfield Forest this weekend to combat ‘traffic chaos’ caused by bad parking.

Officers will be in the area to enforce parking restrictions as people head to the beauty spot.

PC Lesley Long said despite regular action from police, parking was still a major problem.

She said: “With weather set to be good we are expecting high numbers of people heading up to the forest.

“Unfortunately recent experience has shown that inconsiderate parking has caused traffic chaos.

“There are serious implications to the mayhem caused by not parking in the allotted bays, particularly in terms of blocking access for emergency vehicles.

“Traffic enforcement will be in place and any vehicle causing an obstruction will be towed away.

“Please park sensibly and enjoy the forest.”

Last November, following complaints from residents, Cheshire East Council banned parking on roads around the forest including: Standing Stone Road, Trentabank Road, Field Road, and sections of Clarke Lane, Red Lane, Forest Side and Oven Lane.
