Major plans to develop land to the south of the town with homes, shops and a new link road are finally being put out to the public.

Proposals to build 950 homes on what is known as the South Macclesfield Development Area (SMDA), between Congleton Road and London Road, will be put out to the public for feedback at an event on Friday (October 14) at St Barnabus Church, Lyme Avenue, between 2pm and 7pm.

Cheshire East council, which owns some of the land has struck a deal with the other major landowner TG Limited, to get the project going.

There is a reduced amount of retail and proposals to improve the existing playing fields on Congleton Road rather than relocating them within the scheme.

Coun Jamie Macrae, chairman of Engine of the North, the council-owned business tasked with developing land for housing and employment, said: “We are asking residents, businesses and community groups to give us their thoughts on what kind of development the South Macclesfield Development Area could be, alongside enhanced community sport and recreation facilities, open space provision and opportunities to create new jobs locally.”
