A record turnout helped make Starlight Walk an overwhelming success for East Cheshire Hospice.

More than 600 walkers strolled through the grounds of Capesthorne Hall on Friday, raising around £50,000 for the charity.

Among the walkers were family and friends walking on behalf of Sarah Shackleton-Lamptey, from Macclesfield, who died of cancer in December aged 36. Husband Carl led their contingent in tribute to Sarah, a patient at the Hospice who raised funds for the charity during her illness.

The 5k route took the walkers through the forest and walkers lit candles and dropped pebbles into a pond in moving tributes of remembrance.

Jessica Ruth, event organiser said: “We’d like to thank everyone for making the occasion such an outstanding success. Starlight Walk is part of the bereavement journey for many people and a fitting way of helping them remember loved ones.

“I’d like to say a special thanks to our caterers and the 78 volunteers who made sure everyone was safe. The funds raised are the equivalent of a week’s care at East Cheshire so the donations we receive from entries and sponsorship are vital to keep the Hospice running.”
