Cheshire Streetwise hosted a tea dance at Elim Christian Life Centre Church on Parsonage Street.

There was fancy dress from the era, cakes and classic dances.

There was also something for the children with a craft table where they made windmills and paper bag puppets.

Maggie Falconer, from Cheshire Streetwise, who helped Elim and Cheshire East Council organise the event, said: “We had a great time. Some people got dressed up in style, Shirley MacAlister with the big hat and Kath and Flare Mottram dressed as cleaners with pretend cigarettes and curlers in. There were some amazing cakes, scones and sandwiches to share as well as some home made scone with jam and cream. Tesco prepared the butties for us and some of the cakes and other folk were generous. We had people up and dancing to waltzes and war time music as well as having kids activities.”

Dozens of residents in Hurdsfield also turned out at Banbury Park for their own VE celebrations. The event was attended by David Rutley and Combat, a mental health charity for veterans.
