Graphic art lovers will descend on the town on Saturday for Macclesfield’s first mini comic convention.

Macc-Pow is showcasing the work of graphic artists as part of the Barnaby Festival at the Heritage Centre from 10am until 4pm.

It is being presented by Macclesfield comic artist Marc Jackson, who has created characters for The Beano.

He has invited some of the biggest names in comic art to exhibit including Sean Phillips, Paul Grist and Leah Moore, who is editor of Electricomics and daughter of Alan Moore, often described as one of the greatest graphic writers and known for his work in The Watchmen.

There will also be a live Q and A session and special appearance, via Skype, from American cartoonist James Kochalka, known for his series American Elf, and whose work will also be included in the show.

Other local talent comes in the form of Oliver East, Lew Stringer and Dick Vincent.

Visitors are urged to go along browse the stalls, talk to fantastic creators, commission sketches, buy comics, listen to Calvin & Hobbes radio documentary narrated by Phil Jupitus and contribute to a ‘Big Draw‘ to commemorate this grand occasion.

Time events included: a screening of acclaimed Cartoon Network mini-series Over the Garden Wall at 11am; a screening of classic Peanuts animation Snoopy Come Home at 12pm; live Skype Q&A with international comics sensation James Kochalka from his studio in Vermont at 2pm and a screening of the first series of Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends at 3pm.

Marc Jackson said: “We’re looking forward to welcoming all the artists. It’s great to see all forms of comic art and illustration celebrated in Macclesfield.”
