A night of festive fizz is being laid on by residents and businesses to raise funds for Prestbury's youth pantomime group.

Youngsters from Prestbury Youth Pantomime are currently rehearsing ‘Peter Pan’ and will stage a week of performances at Mads Little Theatre, Macclesfield in early January.

This year even more fund raising is necessary as anyone performing a version of ‘Peter Pan’ has to pay a considerable sum to Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital.

And so the Christmas champagne, wine and rum tasting night is being held at The Village Club on Bollin Grove on Thursday, December 4.

Suzan Holder, the pantomime's director, explained: “Putting on a professional standard show each year is always very expensive. Hiring the theatre, paying for sound, lighting, music rights, costumes, scenery and props all adds up.

“We knew that J.M Barrie, the author of Peter Pan, had gifted the rights to the work to the hospital and we are happy to donate to such a fantastic cause, we just need to make sure we raise enough money to cover all the costs.”

The drinks will be provided by Oddbins and Revolution de Cuba. Indian nibbles are being supplied by The Saffron Room restaurant and prizes for a luxury raffle have been donated by The Chocolate Box, Prestbury Travel and other local businesses.

Prestbury residents Wayne and Coleen Rooney have also promised to donate a special prize for the raffle.

Suzan added: “We are overwhelmed by the generosity of the village, it is wonderful that so many local people want to support the kid's efforts. It should be a great night.”

Tickets are £10 each and are available from The Chocolate Box in the village.

‘Peter Pan’ will be at Mads Little Theatre, Macclesfield from January 7 to January 10. Show tickets will soon go on sale priced £8 to £10 at Prestbury Travel in the village.
