Macclesfield has proven itself to be a veritable hotbed of sporting talent with countless athletes from the town earning podium places in their sporting disciplines.

A fortnight ago we revealed some of the greatest sporting talents to have lived or to have been born in the town, and after readers got in touch with their own suggestions of our best sports people, we have chosen three more athletes to add to our hall of sporting fame.

Stuart Brown is a world record holder in Motocross Sidecar racing.

The self-employed joiner, who lives on Hawthorn Way, Hurdsfield, set a new record in motocross history when he won the British Sidecarcross Championship for the 11th time. This summer he also landed his best place in the Sidecarcross World Championships when he and partner Luke Peters took the bronze medal.

Stuart, 42, who started racing after being inspired by his dad, said: “To get third in the worlds was amazing, my best standing. Also I picked up Silk FM’s Sports Person on the Year a week or so ago which was a surprise.

“To be honest I never set out to win awards, but I’m very proud of everything that I’ve achieved.

“Macclesfield does have a lot of people that have been successful in their sports. In mine it was always hard to find somewhere to train, I have to drive for three hours to do so. Maybe Maxonian sports people are more determined to do well.”

One of our most promising youngsters is professional footballer Izzy Christiansen, who headed the goal for Manchester City to clinch the Continental Cup trophy for her team just a fortnight ago.

Izzy, from Rainow, joined Manchester United’s Under-10s as a promising youngster and made the switch to Everton where she broke into the first team and made her Champions League bow.

A move to Birmingham brought more European experience and an FA Cup winner’s medal in 2012.

And as well as club success, Izzy is still in the mix for international honours, having made her full England debut. She also helped Great Britain win gold in the last year’s Summer Universiade in Russia.

Mountain biking World Cup winner Josh Bryceland, also known as Ratboy, started off his sporting journey off-roading around his home town of Poynton.

Josh, 24, was also favourite to become world champion at the competition last month but broke his foot on the last dramatic jump.
