Watch out Lord Sugar!

Dozens of teen entrepreneurs got a taste of wheeling and dealing at a market with a difference.

The Teen Treacle Market, an off-shoot of Macclesfield’s popular Treacle Market, encourages young craft enthusiasts and budding sales people to set up a stall and sell their goods to the public. The market ran alongside the popular Treacle Market on Sunday and took place in St Michael’s churchyard.

Goods on sale included vintage clothing, hand-stitched accessories, jewellery, and homemade-snacks.

Community projects like Just Drop in and i-Macc Youth Club also set out their stalls to promote youth activities around the town. Organiser Jane Munro said the day’s success could see Teen Treacle becoming a permanent fixture in Macclesfield. She said: “It was great.

“It was very windy but despite that thousands came down on the day and there was a very spirited and determined atmosphere.

“Everyone was resilient and resourceful. It helped show just how creative our young people are.”

Falibroome Academy raised £300 for East Cheshire Hospice and Macclesfield Academy sold clothes at their pop-up fashion store.

Jane added: “We’re now going to talk to those involved and see if they would be interested in doing it again.”
