A 79-year-old woman had to be airlifted to hospital after crashing into a tree and becoming trapped.

The incident, which is believed to have left the woman seriously injured, happened near the Swan Inn on Macclesfield Road, in Kettleshulme on Sunday, August 28 at 3.08pm.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Firefighters were called to a report of a collision near to the Swan Inn, on Macclesfield Road, in Kettleshulme at 3.08pm on Sunday, August 28.

“When they arrived crews found that the collision involved one car, a small hatchback, driven by a woman.

“Fire crews were on the scene for around 45 minutes helping to extricate the casualty, who was trapped inside the vehicle.

“Firefighters rescued the woman, who was then transferred to hospital by air ambulance.”

A Cheshire Police spokesperson said the woman's injuries were believed to be serious.

The spokesperson said: "At 3pm on August 28 police attended a collision on Macclesfield Road in Kettleshulme.

"A Hyundai i10 had left the road and collided with a tree.

"The driver, a 79-year-old woman was taken by air ambulance to Wythenshawe Hospital with injuries which are believed to be serious."
