THE plight of missing Madeleine McCann has touched people across the world.

And two Wilmslow bar staff were so upset by the disappearance of the four-year -old that they are doing everything they can to raise money for the campaign set up to help find her.

Eighteen-year-olds Amanda Gleeson and colleague Jade Hampson, of the Hogs Head, have joined the drive to trace the four-year-old who vanished in Portugal on May 3, by organising a fancy-dress fundraiser at the bar.

And they are urging Wilmslow residents to come along and lend their support to help swell the coffers of the official find Madeleine fund.

Amanda, who works part time at the bar while studying for a qualification in childcare, said: "We are trying to get as many people as possible to attend on the night and raise as much money as we can for the cause.

"Madeleine's abduction is something that has touched us and we want to do our bit to help like so many others have up and down the country.

"A lot of people we have spoken to have said they are definitely up for the charity night, especially our regulars who are more than keen to show their support.

"We are also hoping to get other pubs in the area involved on the night by putting buckets on their doors so that we can raise even more money."

Jade who works at the Hogs Head full time, added: "Our manager has been fully supportive.

"All she asked for is a plan of what we intend to do which she has okayed, but she has left all the responsibility for organising it up to us because it was our idea.

"So far everyone we have spoken to about it have been really generous and have rallied around to help us get this off the ground. We have already had someone offer to DJ at the event for free and someone else is helping us publicise the event with Madeleine posters, t-shirts and flyers."

Starting at 8pm on Saturday, June 16, the evening will include music, competitions, raffles, prizes and entertainment.

The total amount of money raised on the night will be split equally between the find Madeleine fund and the Missing People charity.

Jade said: "By giving money to Missing People we will still be helping Madeleine but we will also be helping the thousands of people who go missing each year."
