A war veteran denied a medal has written to the Queen asking for her help.

Theo Eaves, 93, from Poynton, flew 35 missions in Wellington bombers during the Second World War from Italian air bases.

In 2013, the Government awarded the Bomber Command Clasp to aircrew involved in raid across Western Europe in recognition of their bravery and service, but the honour did not go to those who covered Italy, Africa, the Middle East and the Far East.

In October, after two years of campaigning to the Ministry of Defence by letter Theo, a grandfather of two, took his battle online .

But despite amassing 5,700 signatures Theo has been unable to get a u-turn.

Theo said: “I posted a letter to the Queen on this issue. I really hope she will use her influence to intervene.

“I have already written to Prince Charles and to Prince William, and received a reply to each pointing out they can have no influence on political matters, but wished me well.”
