AN ALL star cast of school children have led the way in a sensational string of showcase concerts.

Talented youngsters from across the borough starred in the four-night Youth Arts Showcase at the Evans Theatre - staging a true variety performance of dance, music and drama.

Audiences going to the AstraZeneca sponsored event topped the 700 mark over the week and groups performing included Poynton High School, Cheshire Dance, and the Lightning Theatre Group.

Borough Arts Officer Shelagh Malley, who helped organise the event, said: "It was very successful.

"It showed how much talent the young people in the borough have. The performances went down very well and it was a great opportunity to get young people on stage.

"The audiences really enjoyed the shows and the numbers coming increased each night as word of mouth spread.

"Each night had a different programme giving a wide variety of activities from contemporary dance, ballet, hand bells, string ensembles to concert bands.

"As it proved such a success we will definitely run it again next year."

Lowri Cornwell, a project worker with Friends For Leisure, part of the Lightning Theatre Group, added: "The youngsters at Friends For Leisure thoroughly enjoyed the event. We think the audience enjoyed it and the young people certainly did, it was a great experience. We would definitely do it again."
