The ultimate teddy bears picnic will take place in an attempt to break a world record.

A call has gone out for families to bring along their Paddingtons, Ruperts and Winnie the Poos to try and break the world record for the most teddy bears at a party in a park.

The teddybear flashmob will take place at the Party on The Carrs in Wilmslow which is a free event for all the community.

Members of Wilmslow Dean Rotary Club are organising the attempt, to try and smash the current record of 11,927 teddy bears.

Geoff Shelmerdine, from the Rotary club, is leading the plan, meaning he is extra busy as he also prepares for this year’s Wilmslow Scarecrow Festival.

He said: “I keep coming up with these silly ideas, I must be mad.

“We wanted to come up with something else to promote the town and raise money for local causes, so I invited members of Wilmslow Business Group for a brainstorming session.

“We thought we could capitalise on the captive audience at the Party on The Carrs for the world record attempt.

“We hope there will be more than 3,000 people so it can definetely be done if everyone gets behind it.

“I hope to be inundated with bears on the day.”

Those taking part should take their bears to the Rotary tent on the day to be registered and have a picture taken. Each bear must pay 50p which goes to local charities, and will be entered into a prze draw.

Geoff said: “All Paddingtons, Ruperts, Bungles, Boo Boos, Winnie-the-Poo's and Yogi bears – we need you and your teddy friends to attempt a new Guinness Record for the most bears in the park on one day.

“Come along and join the fun, bring your own teddy bear flashmob and meet some teddy stars.

“This is a fun and exciting venture for us and with the help of all those teddy bears out there we have our sights set on beating the Guinness Record in Wilmslow.

“And just as all of the monies from our Scarecrow Festival are used for charities supported by Rotary, so will the 50p donations for the teddy bear challenge”.

The Party on the Carrs is on Sunday, June 21 from 10am to 4pm, with an outdoor cinema showing the night before.

Wilmslow Scarecrow Festival is from June 20 to July 4, with the parade on Saturday June 27, at 11am and 2pm.
