Ex-Manchester City player Chris Killen has appeared in court accused of sexually assaulting a woman in his former home.

Killen, 35, who lives in Adlington, appeared at a brief preliminary hearing at Minshull Street Crown Court.

He has played for both City and Oldham Athletic.

Killen previously pleaded not guilty to the single charge during a previous hearing at Bury Magistrates Court.

The court was told that the charge relates to an alleged incident at his former home in Stockport in September this year.

His former mansion was rented out on the day of the alleged offence, the court was told.

The hearing was adjourned for reports to be completed before another preliminary hearing at the same court on January 13.

A trial, which is expected to last for three days, was set for June 21 next year.

Mr Killen, of London Road, Adlington, near Macclesfield, was granted conditional bail.

During his playing days, the former New Zealand striker represented his country 48 times, scoring 16 goals.

He started his career at Manchester City before spells at Oldham Athletic , Celtic, Middlesbrough, and hanging up his boots at now dissolved Chinese club Chongqing FC.
