Trains are being delayed around Macclesfield Station due to a horse being spotted near the track.

A spokesman for Virgin Trains told the Express that the animal was seen near the line between Macclesfield and Stoke-on-Trent near to Congleton.

Trains are running at a reduced speed due to the sighting.

The spokesman said: “Our trains are running slightly slower past the Congleton area due to a horse being spotted near the line.

“We’ve alerted Network Rail and expect this to be resolved very shortly.”

The spokesman did not confirm how long the delays are expected to be.
